Minnesota Waldorf School Maplewood, MN September 27, 2012
Ignited by the strength and will power of the children in the community, this event mimics the star constellations Ursula Major (The Big Dipper), Draco, Cassiopeia, and Perseus. These symbols create an impression of heaven on earth. The event is accompanied by the beat of drums and members from the Macalester College Pipeband. Leading up to the iron pour, students work on identifying their personal challenges and creating imagery depicting the qualities necessary in overcoming those challenges. This imagery is carved into sand molds in the form of stars. During the iron pour students watch as the written evidence of their challenges is burned and replaced by an iron star sculpture. This spectacle is performed in honor of each student’s internal transformation.
