In 2003 The Devry Binary Project was an 8-week workshop set in downtown Chicago under the Gallery 37 tent. Teenage participants from all over the Chicagoland area participated as paid apprentices. They were asked for their interpretations of what “technology” has been, is now and will be in the future. Those ideas were sketched, critiqued, and produced in wax, then cast in Bronze to be incorporated into the larger sculpture. The low relief bronze pieces were in the shape of zeros and ones; the binary system that computers are run on. In the sculpture towers they exist in 3 dimensional space. As they viewer moves around the sculpture the small zeros and one gradually move into alignment until they all work together to form a large zero from one side and a large one fro the other side of the sculpture. There are two towers total in the courtyard at the DeVry Institute campus.
