CAST IRON PROJECTS AND PERFORMANCE
The iron casting process has long played a central role in James Brenner’s creative practice. For Brenner, the process of iron casting is just as important as the object. Within Brenner’s collaborative public works, the process involves collaborating with communities of artists and non-artists of various backgrounds gathered together by common interest while working together guided by a common aim to sustain and build upon the aesthetics of communal dynamics. The casting process combined with the community engagement becomes a public performance. Within the memory of each performance, the participants and observers are woven together as witnesses to an experience memorialized in the object of a community coming together.
